SIX SIMPLE SKATING AGILITY DRILLS

Coaches and players are always looking for individual drills that can be executed after paractise or at an open ice session. Agility in hockey is the ability to move your body from one area to another very quickly. These six drills are excellent for working on agility with and without the puck and they can be performed with or without a coach. Remember one thing, push yourself past your confort zone, FULL speed.

MOHAWK D MAN PIVOTS

With quick feet, D start by goal line to top of circle, pivot backwards (no crossovers/Cuts only), stop at the bottom of the circle, forward to the top of circle (even with net), backward to hash mark, stop, quick start forward to top of other circle, backward to bottom of circle, stop go to end of line.
Do without and with pucks.

QUICK TURNS AGILITY DRILL

Start at goal line, quick start with puck around the 1st pylon, back to bottom of circle, stop, quick start, tight turn around pylon 2 at the top of the circle, tight turn, stop at the bottom of circle, stop, quick start, around pylon 3, back to bottom of circle, stop, done.
Quick starts, quick stops, eyes up and down.

FAST FEET QUICK SHOT DRILL

Start at goal line by the boards tight turns through the cones, (accelerate out of the turns), go the cone at the bottom of the circle, pivot backwards to the cone near the blueline, pivot forwards, receive a pass and take a quick shot.
KEEP FEET MOVING / TOP SPEED / QUICK RELEASE ON SHOT AND GO FOR REBOUND.

#1 – STOP PIVOTS – Needed for 1 timers, ready for passes…. Stay low / good knee bend. Start forward, go past cone, stop, pivot backwards, past cone, STOP, pivot forward to past top of cone, repeat with and without puck.

#2 – 1/2 CIRCLE AGILITY Repeat 3 times then next player goes. With and without puck.

#3 -PYLON ESCAPES – without and with puck, turn to outside.

3 minutes for each drill / do in middle zone.
